Attentional Synchrony and the Affects of Repetitve Movie Viewing
نویسنده
چکیده
Attentional synchrony is a new theory in the studies of scene perception, proposing that multiple viewers of dynamic scenes attend to the same location of the scene at the same time. The following paper investigated the effects of repetitive viewing of a professionally edited movie scene on the attentional synchrony of viewers. Participants were required to view a scene from the James Bond movie, Casino Royale, while their eye movements were recorded. The results of the study showed that there was a decline in the degree of attentional synchrony both withinand betweensubjects, though there was a higher degree of attentional synchrony along the horizontal axis in comparison to the

The present study investigated the effect of single and multiple genre movies on listening comprehension of upper intermediate language learners. To this end, a language proficiency test was administered to 40 male and female postgraduates of different majors attending International English Language Testing System (IELTS) classes and ultimately 25 upper intermediate language learners were selec...
متن کاملIdiosyncratic responding during movie-watching predicted by age differences in attentional control
Much is known about how age affects the brain during tightly controlled, though largely contrived, experiments, but do these effects extrapolate to everyday life? Naturalistic stimuli, such as movies, closely mimic the real world and provide a window onto the brain's ability to respond in a timely and measured fashion to complex, everyday events. Young adults respond to these stimuli in a highl...
متن کاملWhat Would Jaws Do? The Tyranny of Film and the Relationship between Gaze and Higher-Level Narrative Film Comprehension.
What is the relationship between film viewers' eye movements and their film comprehension? Typical Hollywood movies induce strong attentional synchrony-most viewers look at the same things at the same time. Thus, we asked whether film viewers' eye movements would differ based on their understanding-the mental model hypothesis-or whether any such differences would be overwhelmed by viewers' atte...
متن کاملAge-related deficits in attentional control of perceptual rivalry
Some aspects of attentional processing are known to decline with normal aging. To understand how age affects the attentional control of perceptual stability, we investigated age-related changes in voluntarily controlled perceptual rivalry. Durations of the dominant percept, produced by an ambiguous Rubin vase-faces figure, were measured in conditions that required passive viewing and attentiona...
متن کاملSynchrony: a neuronal mechanism for attentional selection?
Attentional selection involves brain processes that select and control the flow of information into the mechanisms that underlie perception and consciousness. One theory proposes that the neural activity that represents the stimuli or events to be attended to is selected through modification of its synchrony. Recent experimental evidence supports this theory, by showing that changes in attentio...
